These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the LeafyApp website at leafyapp.uk and the LeafyApp macOS application (together, "LeafyApp"). By downloading LeafyApp from our official website, installing it, or using it, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not download or use LeafyApp.
1. Who we are
LeafyApp is operated by Jtobin (individual developer and data controller).

2. Eligibility and age
LeafyApp is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 years old to use LeafyApp. If you are under 13, you may not use LeafyApp. If you are between 13 and the age of digital consent in your country (up to 16 in some regions), you may use LeafyApp only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
3. License
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the LeafyApp macOS app for your personal, non-commercial use on devices you own or control.
You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app except where applicable law expressly permits
- Redistribute, sublicense, rent, or sell the app or any part of it
- Remove or alter copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices
- Use LeafyApp to build a competing product or to scrape or bulk-extract AI outputs
- Abuse website features through automated submissions or spam
All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
4. Beta software
LeafyApp may be offered as beta or pre-release software. Beta versions may contain bugs, incomplete features, or data-loss risks. Features, pricing, and availability may change without notice. We may end the beta or discontinue LeafyApp at any time.
There is no beta signup or waitlist: downloading LeafyApp requires no account and no email address, and we send no marketing email. If you gave us an email address while the old signup form existed, you may ask us to delete it at any time by contacting us.
5. Your content and data
Your vocabulary library, settings, and other app data are stored locally on your Mac unless you explicitly use a feature that sends data elsewhere (for example, AI lookup, which sends query text to a third-party AI provider as described in our Privacy Policy).
You are responsible for backing up your data. We are not responsible for loss of locally stored data caused by device failure, app crashes, uninstallation, or macOS updates.
The community translation page was retired on 23 July 2026 and no longer accepts submissions. For translation suggestions submitted while it ran, you granted us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, review, modify, and incorporate them into LeafyApp and related materials, without compensation; that license continues to apply to those submissions. The same applies to any feedback you send us from the website.
6. AI features — no reliance
LeafyApp uses third-party AI services to generate definitions, translations, and related text. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate. AI translations and definitions are not professional, legal, medical, or academic advice.
You use AI features at your own risk. Always verify important meanings with authoritative sources. We do not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or suitability of any AI-generated content.
By using AI features in the app, you acknowledge that queried text may be transferred to servers outside your country, including in China, as described in our Privacy Policy, and you consent to that transfer.
7. Fair use of AI features
Where a paid plan is described as "unlimited", that means there is no fixed monthly allowance for ordinary personal use. It does not mean unmetered, automated, or shared access. Every lookup calls a paid third-party AI service, and we size our capacity around normal human reading.
We may apply reasonable technical limits to keep LeafyApp running and affordable for everyone, including daily and per-minute request caps, temporary slowing of requests, queuing during heavy load, and re-use of previously generated results. These limits are set so that ordinary use is not affected.
The following are not fair use, and may lead to slowing, suspension, or termination of access:
- Automated, scripted, or bulk requests, or using LeafyApp as a general-purpose gateway to an AI service
- Sharing a paid licence beyond your own household, or using one licence on more devices than that licence permits
- Reselling, redistributing, or systematically collecting AI output for use outside LeafyApp
- Circumventing or attempting to circumvent rate limits, quotas, device limits, or licence checks
- Using anonymising networks, proxies, or multiple network addresses to obtain additional free allowance
Where it is practical to do so, we will slow or limit the affected usage rather than end it, and we will try to contact you first where we have a way to reach you. If we permanently terminate paid access on fair-use grounds, we will refund the unused part of the current paid period on a pro-rata basis, unless the use was fraudulent.
Free use of LeafyApp includes a daily allowance of AI lookups, shown in the app. That allowance is provided at our discretion and its size may change as our costs and capacity change.
8. Third-party services
LeafyApp and our website rely on third-party services (for example, AI providers, email delivery, and cloud hosting). Your use of those features is also subject to those providers' terms and policies where applicable. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
Product names, logos, and brands mentioned on this website or in the app — including Anki, Kindle, and any other third-party software — are the property of their respective owners. They are used only to describe compatibility or for comparison. LeafyApp is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
LEAFY IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that LeafyApp will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components, or that defects will be corrected.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, JTOBIN AND LEAFY WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF LEAFY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO LEAFY OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR LEAFY IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) EUR 50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Jtobin from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of LeafyApp, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to LeafyApp or the website at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or abused our services. You may stop using LeafyApp at any time by uninstalling the app.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including licenses granted to us for your submissions, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and governing law) will survive.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of LeafyApp after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.
