These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Leafy website at leafyapp.uk and the Leafy macOS application (together, "Leafy"). By downloading Leafy from our official website, installing it, or using it, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not download or use Leafy.
1. Who we are

2. Eligibility and age
Leafy is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 years old to use Leafy. If you are under 13, you may not use Leafy. If you are between 13 and the age of digital consent in your country (up to 16 in some regions), you may use Leafy only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
3. License
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Leafy macOS app for your personal, non-commercial use on devices you own or control.
You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app except where applicable law expressly permits
- Redistribute, sublicense, rent, or sell the app or any part of it
- Remove or alter copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices
- Use Leafy to build a competing product or to scrape or bulk-extract AI outputs
- Abuse website features (including the community translation voting system) through automated submissions, vote manipulation, or spam
All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
4. Beta software
Leafy may be offered as beta or pre-release software. Beta versions may contain bugs, incomplete features, or data-loss risks. Features, pricing, and availability may change without notice. We may end the beta or discontinue Leafy at any time.
By joining the beta waitlist, you consent to receive email about beta access. You may withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us.
5. Your content and data
Your vocabulary library, settings, and other app data are stored locally on your Mac unless you explicitly use a feature that sends data elsewhere (for example, AI lookup, which sends query text to a third-party AI provider as described in our Privacy Policy).
You are responsible for backing up your data. We are not responsible for loss of locally stored data caused by device failure, app crashes, uninstallation, or macOS updates.
When you submit translation suggestions on the website, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, review, modify, and incorporate those suggestions into Leafy and related materials, without compensation.
6. AI features — no reliance
Leafy uses third-party AI services to generate definitions, translations, and related text. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate. AI translations and definitions are not professional, legal, medical, or academic advice.
You use AI features at your own risk. Always verify important meanings with authoritative sources. We do not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or suitability of any AI-generated content.
By using AI features in the app, you acknowledge that queried text may be transferred to servers outside your country, including in China, as described in our Privacy Policy, and you consent to that transfer.
7. Third-party services
Leafy and our website rely on third-party services (for example, AI providers, email delivery, and cloud hosting). Your use of those features is also subject to those providers' terms and policies where applicable. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
LEAFY IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that Leafy will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components, or that defects will be corrected.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, JTOBIN AND LEAFY WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF LEAFY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO LEAFY OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR LEAFY IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) EUR 50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Jtobin from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of Leafy, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to Leafy or the website at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or abused our services. You may stop using Leafy at any time by uninstalling the app.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including licenses granted to us for your submissions, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and governing law) will survive.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Leafy after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.
